Kenilworth Barclays branch closes permanently

By James Smith 14th Jan 2022

Kenilworth's Barclays branch has closed permanently to customers today.

Barclays announced the closure in October 2021, blaming the decision on falling customer numbers.

The Warwick Road bank shut for the final time at 12pm today, meaning Kenilworth's closest branch is now on The Parade in Leamington Spa.

Barclays said only 15 customers use the branch exclusively, with all other customers also using other banks or online banking.

"Before we make the decision to close any branch, we think carefully about how it has been used so far," the bank said.

"We consider how many customers have been visiting, what kind of transactions they've been making, and all the other ways they've been choosing to bank with us.

"We also take into consideration the availability of other branches in the wider community."

According to Barclays 42 per cent of its customers also use other branches, and 85 per cent use online banking.

It also said that cash deposits were down 59 per cent and counter transactions down 39 per cent in 2019-20 compared to 2017-18.

Halifax on Warwick Road was also closed last October, and Nationwide is now only open two days per week.
