Gallery: Fantastic images show Kenilworth war memorial over past 100 years

By James Smith 19th Feb 2022

Fantastic images shared by the Kenilworth branch of the Royal British Legion have shown the history of the town's war memorial over the past century.

First dedicated on Sunday, February 26 1922, the memorial's centenary will be celebrated by the branch next weekend with a rededication service.

Alongside images of the unveiling, RBL members have shared copies of the original order of service from the 1922 dedication.

Originally the memorial, which stands at the top of Abbey Fields, was inscribed with the names of 129 men and one woman from the town who died during the First World War. Nine were added later.

In 1951 new plaques were installed including the names of those lost during the Second World War.
