London Classic Theatre's revival of Mike Leigh's comedy Abigail's Party comes to Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 March 2023.

Abigail's Party premièred at Hampstead Theatre in 1977, with the role of Beverly being immortalised by Alison Steadman. It was then adapted for BBC TV's Play For Today slot later that same year – confirming its place as a modern day masterpiece.

In her suburban living room, Beverly prepares for the arrival of her guests. She and husband Laurence will play host to neighbours Angela, Tony and Sue. As the alcohol flows and the 'nibbles' are handed around, Mike Leigh's ruthless, achingly funny examination of 1970s British life begins.

London Classic Theatre's Michael Cabot directs, with Rebecca Birch (Beverly), Jo Castleton (Susan), Alice De-Warrenne (Angela), George Readshaw (Tony) and Tom Richardson (Laurence).

As the perfect side-order to Abigail's Party, Warwick Arts Centre's cinema is also screening four of Mike Leigh's best films: the invigorating Life Is Sweet (Sat 11 Mar); Career Girls (Tue 14 Mar), a moving tale of friendship; the multi-award winning Happy-Go-Lucky (Wed 15 Mar); and the Oscar and BAFTA-nominated Another Year (Thu 16 Mar).
