The Talisman Cinema
A Korean-American family moves to Arkansas in search of their own American Dream. With the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother, the stability of their relationships is challenged even more in this new life in the rugged Ozarks, testing the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home. What makes this masterpiece is the way the characters are sketched and how they connected together when they encounter tough times in their struggling life.
Minari premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival where it received the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award. It was named one of the ten best films of 2020 by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review. It also received 3 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations and 10 Critics' Choice Movie Awards nominations. This outstanding film earned six nominations at the 2011 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Yeun), and Best Supporting Actress (Youn), with Youn winning for her performance, making her the first Korean to win an Academy Award for acting.
Minari is a story of the American Dream. But Chung's brilliance is in how he adds depth and complexity to those foundational ideas - it's in the spaces in between that we find love, loss, hope, and regret.

A work whose best ingredient is its ability to balance sweetness with an exquisitely prepared study of the details that keep us clinging to our roots and loved ones.
