Kenilworth Women made it two from two with a hard-fought 31-7 win over Sutton Coldfield as they build momentum before their Championship One debut later this month.
Kenilworth made the perfect start to the match after patient phase play and swift handling allowed winger Holly Glover to score in the corner.
After this promising start, however, Sutton grew into the game and frustrated Kenilworth with their impressive work at the breakdown, winning key turnovers whenever Kens managed to break through their defensive line.
Kenilworth continued to apply pressure and saw their rewards again towards the end of the half, with two tries straight from the training field.
For the first, a dominating scrum allowed number eight Kaz Harris to pick from the back, fix the last defender and feed captain Rebecca Hill to score on the right.
The other was a beautifully executed line out move, which allowed fly half Katie Pittaway to feed Harris again, this time blasting through two defenders and scoring under the posts herself.
Kens were close to scoring yet again after a solid break from winger Beth Woodward, back after two seasons out through injury, but Sutton managed to pull off another fantastic turnover on the goal line to leave the score 17-0 at half time.
Sutton had the stronger start to the second half and managed to get on the scoreboard when a strong Sutton scrum and good handling from their backs allowed their centre to break through a disorganised defence to score under the posts.
However, with two further tries from Sarah Munday and winger Laura Swann, the match ended 31-7.
Both teams having put on good performances, but with plenty of points to work on. Harris received forward of the match and Munday back of the match after her first start at centre for over a season.
Kenilworth next face league rivals Lichfield on Saturday 18 September at 12pm, before the men's match - a double header super Saturday that should not be missed!
