Kenilworth defeat Church Stretton 4–1 at Crackley Lane
By James Smith 22nd Jun 2026
Fresh from a narrow defeat against a strong Shrewsbury side last week, Kenilworth returned to winning ways with an impressive 4–1 victory over Church Stretton on the Crackley Lane lawns.
The morning session opened with the doubles, where captain Mervyn Harvey partnered Philip Wood in a tightly contested match. Both pairs exchanged hoops throughout a tense and finely balanced game, but the Church Stretton duo edged it narrowly, 19–18.
In the morning singles, Adrian Morris delivered a confident performance, securing a comfortable 26–15 win to restore momentum for Kenilworth.
The afternoon session saw Morris continue his strong form, producing a commanding 26–3 victory to put Kenilworth within touching distance of overall success.
Harvey's afternoon singles match began evenly, but as play progressed he steadily took control, closing out a well-earned 26–12 win to secure the match for Kenilworth.
The final game proved the most dramatic of the day. With both players trading errors and strong breaks under pressure, Philip Wood held a slender one-hoop lead going into the final stages.
Church Stretton needed a single hoop to level the match but, despite achieving a promising position in front of the hoop, the decisive shot was missed. Kenilworth therefore sealed the final game and an overall 4–1 victory.
