Kenilworth Wardens Reserves preseason begins

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

Kenilworth Wardens Reserves began their preseason today against Craftsmen FC at Caludon Castle school.

Wardens Reserves, who were promoted to Coventry Alliance Division Three at the end of last season, came up against a newly-formed Craftsmen side, who will play their first competitive fixture will in Division Four when the season begins in September.

Following a first half full of quality football, the two sides went into the break at 0-0.

The score was only level thanks to three brilliant goal-line clearances clearances from Craftsmen.

After 62 minuets, centre half Joe Carter played a brilliant channel ball to the left back Roger Kingston, who stood up the Craftsmen centre half in the box, before being brought down for a penalty.

Craftsmen were convinced that the foul was outside the box, but the penalty stood.

Jamie Whitehouse tucked the penalty away confidentiality to make it 1-0.

Four minutes later, Ben Edmunds won a free kick 30 yards out. Veteran captain James Butcher stepped up to take the free kick, and smashed it into the top corner, leaving the keeper with no chance.

On 74 minutes Wardens took a corner after a mix-up between the goal keeper and defender. The ball fell to centre half, and man of the match, Matt Legg to pass the ball home from a tight angle.

The match was sponsored by W and H UK, a link to their website can be found here.

Kenilworth Wardens first team had already played two preseason matches, with wins over Balsall and Berkswell as well as Stockton Reserves.
