Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Richard Dickson has spoken to Nub News today about the latest government restrictions

Following an announcement this morning from Health Secretary Matt Hancock, Kenilworth and the rest of Warwickshire have been escalated to Tier Three in the UK Government's three-tier system for dealing with Covid-19.

The new restrictions will begin on Thursday, December 3 and will see much harsher restrictions imposed upon the people of Kenilworth than before the second national lockdown began.

Before the second national lockdown, which began in early November, Kenilworth, the rest of the county, and 169 other regions were in Tier One - 'Medium' risk.

With the announcement coming on Monday (November 23) that the second national lockdown will end at the beginning of December, Kenilworth small businesses are now looking forward to reopening, but they need the support of the local community.

The nation will return to the three-tier system that was announced at the end of October, meaning that restaurants, gyms, non-essential shops, and other hospitality venues will be able to open in some form, although some changes to the regulations have been made.

The famous Virgins & Castle on the old High Street in Kenilworth has been working with a young, local designer to help them bring to life the magic of Christmas of a bygone time ready for their re-opening in December.

The 16th century pub, that is part of the Everards Brewery and owned by hospitality group Caviar & Chips, had to close its doors, along with every other pub in the country, on Thursday, November 5.

Trading Standards Animal Health Officers have received reports of criminal gangs illegally smuggling puppies in to the UK to sell, puppies being stolen and sold on, and consumers paying thousands of pounds to bogus online sellers for puppies that don't exist.

Kenilworth Town Council has awarded nearly £75,000 through the HS2 Business and Local Economy Fund to begin a project to support local businesses through the disruption caused by the construction of the new high speed railway line.

With six out of the town's eight access roads proposed to be closed at some point in HS2's construction period, the town council wants to spread the message that 'Kenilworth is Open for Business'.
