Locals have been given the chance to choose the new name for the railway line which serves Kenilworth.

A public vote has been opened for the title for the Leamington Spa to Nuneaton route, which passes through Kenilworth Railway Station.

Residents had initially been asked to submit suggestions for the name by Heart of England Community Rail Partnership, with over 200 ideas put forward.

But the list has been whittled down to three options: Coventry & Warwickshire Line, Elephant & Bear Line and Pioneer Line.

The 200 suggestions were judged by representatives from Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council, West Midlands Rail Executive, Avanti West Coast, West Midlands Trains, and Chiltern Railways.

The line has previously been referred to as the NUCKLE line.

The new name will be unveiled at a Coventry Station Community Day (date TBC) and there will be a prize for the winning entry.

The new name will then be used to inspire community-led artwork at all stations along the line, and we, together with rail industry partners such as West Midlands Railway, will be using it to promote the line and all it has to offer.

Organisers said: "The Heart of England Community Rail Partnership would like to work with local communities to help choose a new name for the railway line between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa.

"This is a key rail line linking North and South Warwickshire with Coventry, where there are many fantastic attractions that we want to shine a light on."
