Work is well underway on a new village hall in Burton Green that is being funded by HS2.

The high speed rail developer is paying for the Red Lane facility because the line will need the current hall to be knocked down.

The new building, which was approved by Warwick District Council, is expected to be completed early next year. Until then the old hall will remain open to the community.

Deeley Construction began work on site in June 2022 and the new build will include a double-height main hall, kitchen, toilets, small meeting room and office.

The hall is managed by a group of volunteers and provides space for community groups and activities.

When work began this summer Cheryl Wall, chair of trustees, said: "It's exciting to finally see work start on our new village hall. We have worked extensively with our partners over the past decade to get to this stage.

"After a lengthy process, we selected the site for the replacement village hall and the associated outdoor space will help us to expand our services, particularly with hosting events such as village fetes.

"We will have expanded parking facilities, including electrical charging points, and the area around the hall will be landscaped.

"Burton Green Village Hall is at the heart of our community. It's used by the parish council, residents' association, Women's Institute and a wide range of other groups, including our wine club, stitch group, toddler group, dance academy and many more.

"It's a really important place for our village. We hope the new hall will attract residents from all over the village, we have worked hard to make it accessible and attractive to our newer residents too."
