Village pub to battle council's patio and gazebo ruling

A village pub is set to fight the council's decision to deny permission for works on its outdoor area.
The Three Horseshoes on Spring Hill, Bubbenhall, asked Warwick District Council to approve two gazebos that have already been built, plus a planned patio extension and disability ramp, but the application was rejected after a heated council meeting.
Publican Ashleigh Spence had the backing of 70 supportive comments and Bubbenhall Parish Council but saw her application rejected by councillors.
This decision has now been appealed and will be decided by the planning inspectorate.
"Taken as a whole, the refusal rests on an overly rigid green belt percentage approach, an incomplete heritage balance which fails to acknowledge clear public benefits (including inclusive access), and highways/parking issues that are capable of resolution by condition," the appeal said.
"The proposal is modest, reversible and supports the continued viable use of an important village community facility while improving inclusive access."
Warwick District Council will now have the chance to present its case.
Planning officers at the local authority had advised the scheme be refused, saying it would represent too much change in a conservation and green belt area.
Warwickshire County Council's highways department said the works reduced the size of the car park entrance.
Speaking at the meeting last month, parish councillor Jim Roberts said the pub had revitalised over the past few years.
"I want to make it very clear, our ancient village and our community overwhelmingly wants these improvements to go ahead," he said, citing support levels and absolutely no objections".
