UPDATE: The Kenilworth men who RAN to Support Our Paras

As Remembrance Sunday yesterday could not be observed in the usual fashion, three Kenilworth men completed the 'Paras' 10' event in aid of Support Our Paras.

Glen Iceton, Paul Edwards, and Bob Stear all successfully ran the 10 mile route with the adage that they had to be wearing boots and carrying a 35lb pack the whole way to replicate military fitness and selection tests.

The Paras' 10 is organised every year by the charity Support Our Paras which "supports The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces through the welfare of veterans, serving soldiers and their families, and through the maintenance of its regimental efficiency, ethos, spirit and heritage."

Ahead of the event the three had originally set a target of raising £150 for the charity, but have in fact gone way past that and raised over £550.

Speaking to Nub News Glen Iceton said "It took about three hours and was tough!

"We got lots of support along the way and local residents waved us off!"

The route took them from Glen's house to the war memorial in Abbey Fields where they layed a cross.

They then went on to the Royal Fusiliers museum at St John's House in Warwick, in time for a two-minute silence at 11am, before returning to Abbey Fields to complete the distance.

Glen said "With everything going on, it is easy for us to forget Remembrance Sunday, and the people who have died for our freedoms, which is maybe ironic at the moment, given that we're being curtailed so much, but maybe this will help people realise that if it wasn't for those sacrifices, this could have been the norm."

Glen served in the Blues and Royals, but he is not the only military connection for the team. The three were supposed to be joined by a fourth runner, Joe Milner, who sadly had to drop out just before the event.

"One of the lads, Joe, his grandfather had been in the paras, and served in Palestine in 1948-9, so he had a personal connection as well."
