By James Smith 1st Nov 2021

The University of Warwick has become the latest partner to support Warwickshire County Council's #Donttakeithome campaign which is aimed at reducing transmissions of Covid-19 by young people.

The campaign#Donttakeithomecomes following a consistent trend in data which showsan increase in positive cases inyoung peopleaged 20 - 29. This then leads to the risk of themtaking the virushome and passing it ontopeople they live with.

SeveralWarwickshire bloggers and young people have helped to launch the campaign and now student ambassadors from the University of Warwick have joined to tell their story and explain why they are supporting the #Donttakeithome campaign.

Embedded at the top of this page is a video of University of Warwick student Maya Surprenant who says "rather than taking unnecessary risks I am encouraging the people of Warwickshire to stay safe and be responsible."

Director of Public HealthWarwickshire, Dr Shade Agboola said:"It's great to have the University student ambassadors on board. Weknow that many young people are doing the right thing and are taking the right steps to keep themselves, their friends and their families safe and we want to thank them for doing that.

"In addition, I also want to commend the University of Warwick for playing their part by rolling out a mass testing programme for all their students this week. This is a huge undertaking, which not only ensures the safety of the students wanting to return home, but also their families, who I know will be keen to have them home safely for the Christmas period."

The campaign is being rolled out county-wide and can be supported by the #Donttakeithome. The main messages of which include:

- Keeping your distance from those you do not live with

- Wearing a face covering in public places and on public transport

- Washing your hands regularly, especially when returning home

- Sticking to the current rules around how many people you can mix with and in which settings

- Staying at home and isolating with your household and getting a test if you have symptoms
