Two new classrooms set to be built at local primary school
Plans to build two new classrooms at a village primary school have been approved by Warwick District Council.
The scheme will see a new teaching block, including toilets and storage space, built at Burton Green Academy.
But the school says it will not be taking on more students.
The plans, which were backed by Burton Green Parish Council, said: "There are no plans for the increase in pupil numbers and staff.
"The vast majority of the [existing] classrooms are below the recommendations, this new facility is to cater for existing staff/pupils, suitability, sufficiency."
Adding that with the pandemic continuing to have an impact on children, the extra space is need to provide "a learning environment that is fit for purpose".
The single-storey teaching block will replace eight planters and a shed, whilst a number of trees and shrubs will need to be removed before it can be built.
And a new access will need to be built for the school premises.
The school also said that 70 per cent of the work would be done off site, in order to minimise the impact on the local environment.
"The design of the new building has been carefully considered to not only create a bright modern and welcoming space conducive to provide a high quality teaching environment, but a building which is of high architectural quality that sits modestly within it's environment," the application said.
"The proposed development looks to provide a high quality teaching space at Burton Green Academy."
The application was approved on delegated authority, with a council report judging the plans to "harmonise with the prevailing character" of the area and the local street scene by the council.
Biodiversity and ecological surveys must be submitted to the council before work can begin on site.
