'Tourism is doing well in Kenilworth' says town's MP
Tourism in Kenilworth is doing well.
That was the message from the town's MP during English Tourism Week this March.
In a public message shot outside Kenilworth Castle, Sir Jeremy Wright spoke of the importance of tourism to the local economy, and thanked those who work in the sector.
"It [Kenilworth Castle] had last year around 118,000 visitors, so tourism is doing well here and it is doing well across the nation," the MP for Kenilworth and Southam said.
"It is one of the biggest contributors to our local economy and of course to the nation, it makes a significant contribution too.
"We are all tourists at one point or another, but we don't realise what a difference tourism makes to the economy as a whole, or to local businesses; the cafes, the pubs, the restaurants, the places that benefit from people who come to towns like Kenilworth."
Run by Visit Britain, English Tourism Week runs until March 24 and aims to highlight the importance of visitors to local communities and to promote the "innovation, quality and range of products" on offer to boost domestic breaks.
This year's campaign, co-ordinated by VisitEngland, is using the strapline 'supporting tourism, the heart of our community' to celebrate the people, places, businesses, attractions, experiences and destinations at the heart of England's tourism sector.
"It is a good moment to recognise the importance of tourism, congratulate and thank those who work in those industries and the ones related to them," Sir Jeremy added.
"And to hope and expect we do more and more as a nation to bring people to our country, to our towns, villages and cities to enjoy what we have to offer, and to benefit all our local economies."
