Businesses in Kenilworth are coming together to promote each other and all the town centre has to offer.

Launched by a number of retailers and coffee shops, 'Shop Kenilworth' is a new initiative aimed at making the town a key destination within Warwickshire and beyond.

The scheme, which launches this autumn, was born out of a number of the business owners looking to improve communication and co-ordination along Warwick Road and Talisman Square.

And with many events, late-night shopping and offers to be promoted across the town in the run up to Christmas, now is the "perfect time" to get Shop Kenilworth up and running.

"We want to create a friendly network of local shops, traders and businesses working together to support each other and keep our town thriving," Ashley Davis of Morning Sunshine said.

"We will share ideas, promote local shopping and create a stronger sense of community in Kenilworth.

"Individually we have lots of events going on, lots of things happening. If we can pull that together, and work together to promote each other, we become a destination, don't we?"

New social media pages have been created for Shop Kenilworth, giving the businesses a dedicated platform to market their events without using local community groups where their news can often get buried or be removed.

Locals will then have a 'one-stop-shop' for happenings in the town centre which they can access easily.

"There's a lot of great independent businesses in Kenilworth," Judy Brook of Kenilworth Books added.

"We have a thriving high street with few empty shops but we all have tended to work quite independently, quite separately from each other, in the past.

"So actually that synergy of coming together, we're hoping it will achieve even bigger and better things.

"Particularly with the influx of a few new businesses recently."

Businesses involved in Shop Kenilworth will also soon have stickers in their window to promote the initiative, as well as posters advertising key events through the festive period.

This will include the upcoming Thursday night light shopping from November 20, which will see town centre shops and businesses staying open until 7pm.

This as well as guaranteed Sunday openings from 11am to 4pm from November 9.

"We have clients coming over to us from Warwick who say they didn't know what we have here in Kenilworth," said Jonathan Davis of Shires Physio which opened in Talisman Square this year.

"Previously Kenilworth was a bit sparse and quiet, but it is really vibrant now.

"We have got our business off the ground networking, and have found some people are scared of competition, rather than engaging with them and working together."

As well as meeting on a regular basis, the companies involved also have a dedicated WhatsApp group to ease communication around the town centre.

A huge range of firms including retailers, coffee shops, health services and some of the national chains have already got involved.

And with Shop Kenilworth now up and running, those involved are calling on as many town centre companies to get involved - completely for free.

"The town has been working independently," added Carl Edmonds of Edmonds Jewellers.

"We cannot continue like that.

"The town has joked previously about 'not another coffee shop' - but they're all full.

"And it is that cluster effect that brings people into the town, makes the businesses up their game, and ultimately the customer wins.

"The more businesses we have working together, the better the town centre will become for the customer."
