Matt Willemsen of MWArchitectural is gives Nub News readers an insight into a recently-completed Kenilworth extension.

We are delighted to see the completion of this substantial luxury house extension to an existing manor home on the outskirts of Kenilworth.

Replacing an unsightly detached pool building, this bespoke residential project has transformed the property with a carefully designed addition that provides exceptional new private living spaces while remaining true to the character of the original home.

The extension introduces a range of high-end spaces tailored to the client's lifestyle, including a new spice kitchen, private gym, sauna spa, cinema room and a pair of guest bedrooms with ensuites.

Rather than simply increasing floor area, the design focuses on improving how the house functions day to day, while also supporting entertaining, wellness and longer stays from visiting family and friends.

From the beginning, the project involved an intensive concept design process. Several iterations were tested and discussed before the scheme moved into planning.

This early stage was crucial in shaping an extension that felt ambitious yet well balanced, particularly for a home of this scale.

Working with the assigned planning officer proved to be a constructive experience, and the design was subsequently refined in response to their feedback to secure a successful planning approval.

As the design continued to evolve during the construction phase, several amended planning applications were also submitted to ensure every aspect of the scheme remained fully approved.

Architecturally, the extension responds directly to the existing dwelling, which was especially important on this project as the client had previously had the original home designed and built for themselves.

The new addition therefore needed to feel like a natural continuation of that investment and vision.

Matching materiality, coordinated pitched roofs and the continued use of gable forms at the front help the extension sit comfortably alongside the existing home.

Large ground floor windows reflect the use of the gym space, while still respecting the ornamental brick banding and established detailing of the original property.

At the rear, the extension took on a more contemporary feel, with inset combined rooflight/ windows making the most of the available interior headroom and accentuating the vaulted ceilings throughout the first floor bedroom areas.

Internally, the scheme delivers a strong sense of luxury through both layout and use. The spice kitchen adds practical flexibility to the home, supporting everyday family life as well as larger gatherings.

The gym and sauna spa create a dedicated wellness element within the property, while the cinema room and ensuite guest bedrooms add comfort, privacy and convenience.

Together, these spaces reflect our philosophy on high-end residential architecture in Warwickshire: homes that are not only beautiful, but finely tailored to the people living in them.

This project has also been a pleasure to deliver because of the team involved. The client and contractor have been exceptional to work with throughout, and that collaborative approach has played a major role in carrying the design from concept through planning and into construction.

Seeing the scheme take shape on site and reach completion has made it an especially rewarding project for everyone involved.

Now complete, this house extension in Kenilworth stands as a strong example of what can be achieved through a carefully considered design process.

It shows how a luxury house extension can provide substantial new accommodation, support a modern way of living and remain fully in keeping with the original home.

Whether you are planning a high-end residential extension, a bespoke alteration to a substantial property, or a luxury home improvement project in Coventry, Kenilworth or the surrounding Warwickshire area, thoughtful design is key to achieving a result that feels both ambitious and appropriate.
