Repair works needed at Stoneleigh Abbey
By James Smith 25th Feb 2026
Repair works to the outside of Stoneleigh Abbey are needed, a planning application submitted to Warwick District Council has revealed.
The plans - submitted by WvH Planning Ltd - show a variety of repairs are needed on the East Wing and the undercroft.
The application said the extent of the works needed, was discovered following the approval of other planning applications for the grade II listed building.
Works needed include replacing and repairing "decaying" sandstone, repairing broken tiles, repairing the 17th-century downpipes, repairing vents, and fixing the drainage.
"The proposals do not introduce new openings or alter the architectural character of the elevations," the application said.
"Instead, they address long-standing defects including spalling stone, inappropriate past repairs, failing rainwater goods, and deteriorated roof coverings."
It added: "The proposals are conservation-led, technically justified, and fully aligned with the council's earlier conclusions that similar works would result in neutral heritage impact while safeguarding the building's future."
The council has said planning permission is not needed for the works and they fall under 'permitted development rights'.
