A prolific shoplifter who stole from businesses in Kenilworth, Warwick and Leamington Spa has been jailed for 39 weeks.

Tommy Johnstone, 35, of The Lindfield in Coventry, was arrested on 20 October after he was abusive to an Emscote Road shop manager who asked him to leave the store.

Enquiries by officers linked him to seven other thefts of hundreds of pounds worth of alcohol and food in the area between 18 September and 20 October.

During an incident at a shop on 13 October he threatened a member of shop staff who confronted him, saying "I'll smash your face in".

At the time of the crimes, Johnstone was serving a suspended sentence for a series of other shoplifting offences.
