Plans to build two major warehouses on former Baginton sewage farm given the green light
Plans to build two warehouses on a former, disused sewage farm in Baginton have been approved by Warwick District Council.
The plans, submitted by Coventry and Warwickshire Development Partnership, include two industrial units covering 33,500 sq m, as well as 333 car parking spaces, offices and an outdoor area for staff.
Part of a wider 450-acre business park scheme at Gateway South, near Coventry Airport, the warehouses will be in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Phase one of the project began in 2020, but this latest planning application is for plots 4B and 4C.
Approving the plans, a council report said: "I am satisfied that the dimensions and general design of the proposed buildings is in line with the parameters which were set at the outline stage and there would be no resulting visual harm to the character of the surrounding area.
"There are no environmental health concerns about the proposal in terms of noise and general disturbance and together with the distances to the nearest neighbouring properties I am satisfied that the buildings would not result in material harm to residential amenity.
"There are no access, parking or highway safety concerns with the building and matters of landscape and drainage are satisfactorily dealt with."
The application shows that hedgerows and trees will be planted to help mask the site, and there will be cycling and walking routes to the warehouses.
When SEGRO bought the Gateway South site in early 2020 Andrew Pilsworth, business unit director, said: "Gateway South, Coventry is truly an excellent location.
"It's well-connected, close to major population centres and it's one of a small number of sites that can accommodate our long-term vision of creating a high-quality industrial and logistics park.
"We're pleased to count some of the biggest names in logistics and industrial amongst our valued customers. We look forward to engaging with them to make Gateway South, Coventry a great success in the coming years."
The company said over 7,000 jobs would be created in the area.
Planning permission was granted in January for a 125-hectare battery factory to be built on the nearby Coventry Airport.
