Plans for new 'pumping' station in Kenilworth put forward by HS2

Plans for a large new pumping station on the edge of Kenilworth have been revealed by HS2.
The high speed rail developer said the proposed Canley Brook Pumping Station is "critical" to the running of the railway.
Set to be built alongside the A429 Kenilworth Road, the station would also have a new junction built.
Plans have been submitted to Warwick District Council for consideration.
"The proposed location for the works is the most efficient as the HS2 alignment has a low point at this location where track drainage can be collected by gravity," the application said.
"The function of the pumping station will be to pump water up to an attenuation basin so that it can drain away via existing drainage."

HS2 said there will be planting and landscaping around the pumping station to "soften" the view of it.
"The planting design will include native species hedgerows, species-rich grassland and wet grassland in the attenuation basin," the application continued.
"The pumping station building will also have a 'green roof' of wildflower planting.
"The use of grasses and shrubs will help to soften the appearance of the building and the associated infrastructure as well as supporting biodiversity and reducing its carbon footprint."
