Plans for 250m HS2 cutting near Balsall Common revealed

Plans for a 250-metre-long embankment for the HS2 line around Balsall Common have been put forward.
The high speed rail developer has revealed plans for the Lavender Hall Embankment which will carry the new line between Lavender Hall Lane and 150m north-west of Station Road.
"Lavender Hall Embankment will be approximately 250m long and have a maximum width of 55m at the toe of the embankment," the plans state.
"At the southern end, the embankment will have a height of approximately eight metres at the viaduct abutment from existing ground level.
"At the northern end the embankment will meet existing ground level."
The HS2 rail alignment in this area will run broadly parallel to the existing Rugby to Birmingham Line.
The land of the embankment was agricultural land before the HS2 works began.
The scheme will also see a small concrete bridge built to carry an agricultural access over the existing Bayley's Brook.
A three-metre high noise barrier will run 181 metres along the length of the cutting.
The cutting sits between the new Balsall Common viaduct and Park Lane cutting.
The HS2 Act decrees the cutting will be created, with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council only able to comment on certain design elements.
