Plans for 12 'self build' housing plots in Kenilworth approved

Plans for 12 'self-build' housing plots in Kenilworth have been given the green light by Warwick District Council.
Planners have rubber stamped two separate applications - each for six homes - for the Kenilworth Gate development off Leamington Road.
Persimmon Homes was given permission for the 12 plots in 2021 as part of a much wider development for 550 homes, a community centre, two primary schools and a major piece of employment land.
However, a fresh application had to be submitted for the self builds as no detailed plans had been confirmed since then.
Approving the homes, a council report said: "This proposal seeks to renew the outline permission specifically for the self/custom build units to allow additional time for the submission of reserved matters to allow for adequate marketing time in order for the units to be sold to potential self-builders.
"There are no material changes since these dwellings were previously approved.
"There are no technical objections to the development and as such the proposal is recommended for approval."
Explaining the reason for the lack of progress, the application said: "Given that the very nature of self-build units is that the details of what will be built will differ from the Persimmon and Charles Church range, the details of the self-build were not known at the time of reserved matters submission.
"Therefore, to allow for the details to be agreed by the owner/s of each plot, we are submitting this outline application."
Plans show the plots will be to the west side of the estate near Thickthorn Close.
