A Kenilworth bungalow has finally been granted a new lease of life after district planners approved a revised scheme for it to be demolished and rebuilt.

In February Warwick District Council turned down a previous scheme to redevelop the Fieldgate Lane property and replace it with a five-bed house.

While the decision was appealed the owners submitted a second application to regenerate the site, which has now been given the green light by the council.

Next to the grade II listed Fieldgate House, the bungalow had been described as "sad" and "dilapidated" by locals who had supported the project.

Permission has now been granted for the home to be knocked down and replaced with a dormer bungalow of a similar size.

A council report said: "This proposal is of a reduced height and bulk when compared with the previously refused application, and far closer to the scale of the existing bungalow building than the previous scheme.

"It is considered that this reduction in scale of the building has resulted in a building that would continue to appear subservient to the neighbouring listed asset, resulting in a more sympathetic appearance and relationship with the conservation area and neighbouring listed building."

The plans can be viewed online here.
