Locals gathered at Kenilworth Sporting Ground on Thursday (December 14) for a pro-am event hosted by Nomades Club de Pètanque.

The Nomades and some U3A pètanque players were joined by 18 members from The Kenilworth Runners, also based at the Gypsy Lane ground, who were keen to try the sport.

Each newcomer was paired with a seasoned pètanque player to play as doubles against another pair.

There were nine games happening simultaneously and the terrain (the playing area) on the rear car park was set alive with silver metal boules flying up and down.

The weather stayed dry and the terrain was fabulously lit by the new floodlights generously provided and installed by Kenilworth Sporting.

Celebratory drinks in the warm bar topped off a successful and great fun evening.

The Nomades Pètanque Club welcomes anyone wishing to try the sport and no prior experience is necessary.

The usual club times are 12.30pm on Monday and Wednesday, 6.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 10am Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.

Anyone can turn up at a session or for more details contact: [email protected]
