A new wine bar and bistro has opened in Kenilworth, directly opposite a tea room that the same owner launched earlier this year.

Former teacher Kate Greevy took over the Farthing Gallery and Tea Room in June and gave the High Street shop a full makeover.

And now she has opened her second eatery, The Butcher's Bistro, in the former Alexa Lauren Patisserie on the other side of the road.

"I actually wanted to open the bistro before I opened the tea rooms, but the tea room came around first," Kate explained.

"We got that up and running and then the opportunity to buy the patisserie over the road came up and so I went for it when it was available.

"And I wanted to add a bit more life into the old town and try and make the two businesses work fully together."

The High Street venue has been completely redecorated inside and out, with a new bar installed - only the kitchen has remained untouched.

And Kate, with the help of a local designer, managed to turn the bistro around in just six weeks to be open in time for the Christmas light switch on.

"What's that saying, 'biting off more than you can chew'?" she added.

"It's been stressful but when the opportunity arises, you have to take it.

"Maybe the timing would have been better but we didn't want to miss out.

"And the tea room is that established and the staff were so brilliant that they just let me get on with the bistro."

The Butcher's Bistro will not serve full meals, but instead will offer a range of small plates, small pizzas and charcuterie boards.

Kate explained: "People in the High Street are very supportive of these sorts of businesses.

"They don't want shops, they want more sociable spaces.

"Obviously the Virgins and the Old Bakery are incredibly popular but there seemed to be a bit of a gap in the market for more tapas-style, small plates, casual dining place.

"It fits in really well down there.

"We are never going to do full meals, we are there as a stop for a bottle of wine and have a charcuterie board or something like that."

The business has now fully reopened to customers following a Christmas break, Kate said she was delighted by the feedback she has already received.

And Kate has announced the bistro will hold a vegan night on February 3.
