New Stoneleigh Island junction may not be finished until 2024
The £38 million works at Stoneleigh Island may not be finished until early next year, Warwickshire County Council (WCC) has confirmed.
The project to build a new bridge and roundabout at the A46 junction has been hit by major delays and is now set to be complete "in winter 2023/24".
Originally planned to be complete in summer 2022, the major scheme has been slowed by "various issues" including supply problems.
WCC says the project currently remains within the budget.
"Work on and around the A46 has been slower due to various issues," a council statement said.
"The most recent issue is in relation to the supply of the backfill material to the new A46 bridge.
"As suitable source and quantity of material could not be obtained at this time, this has affected other projects nationally.
"A solution is now in place for all these issues, but they have impacted the programme.
"We have worked as quickly as possible to resolve these issues, but they have taken time to ensure they are suitable and are approved by relevant authorities."
The local authority said progress on the new layouts for Dalehouse Lane and Stoneleigh Road have progressed well, and the new bridge over Finham Brook is now open.
But while the new bridge deck was installed at the end of January, it is yet to be connected to the new road layout.
"We apologise for these delays and thank you for your continued patience while work is finished," the WCC statement added.
"Further updates on programme and progress will be issued on the scheme webpage."
