A new family run martial arts gym is set to open in Kenilworth this weekend with a day of free taster sessions.

Hussars Fight Team and Fitness, which is run by husband and wife Alecia and Alan Zomkowski, will open on Saturday, November 6 just two weeks after they picked up the keys.

The gym, which is above Specsavers on Warwick Road, will bring specialist martial arts coaching to the town for everyone from beginners and children to professional fighters.

Alan explained: "The open day is a chance for anyone to come and try the style of our classes with zero commitment.

"We cater for all from professional and amateur fighters to children and absolute beginners. Martial arts can be very intimidating to get started in and a lot of gyms can be scary to walk through the door. We're a friendly bunch and welcome anyone to our team.

"Number one priority for us is to have fun and enjoy the process wether you're a beginner or a professional fighter."

The open day, which will see half hour taster sessions from 12pm to 5pm, will showcase the different styles of classes on offer, and customers can book in for as many free sessions as they like.

Hussars Fight Team and Fitness is the culmination of a long term dream for Alexia and Alan. The two have previously coached at other gyms, predominantly training fighters.

During the first lockdown they began offering sessions to family and friends. With interest growing and growing the couple "decided to take the plunge" and start their own business.

"We set up the brand, took on some members and the HFT family started growing at a faster rate then we could have wished for," Alan added.

"This happen to the point where we now have our very own facilities in the centre of Kenilworth where we can take on more people and welcome them to the team."

Alan has also thanked the support of their original clients, such as Harry Hogan, Fin Mac, Brad Wilks, Sam Peterson and Dan Haggarty for "putting their faith" in HFT.

Both Alan and Alecia have been involved in martial arts since they were children and actually met through the sport.

They also both believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take part in martial arts, whether at an amateur or professional level. And highlighted the physical and wellbeing benefits of the sport.

"Even doing it once is a life changing experience and everyone comes out stronger on the other side," said Alan.

"For anyone with mental health issues, anxiety or low self-esteem martial arts are the best way forward to really improve your well-being."

HFT will be open seven days a week with a full timetable catering to all abilities. To find out more, follow this link to their Instagram page, or head down on Saturday to join a session.

The gym can be accessed through 17a The Square, which is down the small alley next to Specsavers.
