The council is hiring for a new 'programme manager' to help Balsall Common become "the best small town in the West Midlands".

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) has opened applications for the role with the successful applicant set to oversee the thousands of new homes set to be built in the village.

Various applications for major new estates in Balsall Common are currently with council planners, including a major scheme that will see 970 new homes and a community centre built between Station Road and Waste Lane.

The role - which is for three years - will be for a "critical stakeholder" in a "key growth area" as some 2,000 homes are set to be constructed across the village.

The SMBC advert says the role is part time (22.2 hours per week) and pays up to £48,474 pro rata.

"The vision is to create the best small town in the West Midlands as the current village grows with new development," the advert says.

"This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced programme manager to ensure that council services, key partners and stakeholders in the growth area in Balsall Common are fully managed and aligned across the programme to maximise opportunities and deliver the right infrastructure in an effective and timely manner.

"The role will involve working closely with planning and other organisations at a high level to persuade and achieve an agreed solution, at times where parties have fundamentally differing views.

"So, if you understand the planning arena and have managed stakeholders at a high level to provide common agreed outcomes we'd like to hear from you."
