More electric vehicle charging points set for Abbey End and other Warwick district car parks
There's more good news for electric vehicle owners, with preparations being made for the installation of 40 additional public charging points in Warwick District Council operated car parks including Abbey End in Kenilworth.
This week a number of parking bays in the affected car parks will be temporarily closed in order for contractors from Warwickshire County Council to make the necessary ground works. It is planned that the EV charging points will be fully operational by the spring in the following car parks;
Chandos Street, Leamington Spa
West Rock & Hampton Road, WarwickAbbey End, Kenilworth
The programme, funded through the government's OLEV and ORCS schemes also includes the provision of eight additional sockets in St Peter's Multi-Storey Car Park. These will complement the charging points already available in the car parks at Covent Garden and Station Approach.
Warwick District Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment & Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Alan Rhead commented: "As electric vehicles become more affordable and technology improves, we have to make it as easy as possible for local people to make the transition from diesel and petrol.
"Along with the availability of free parking permits, what amounts to a seven-fold increase in the number of public charging points available is another significant step in our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in our district."
Further information and updates about EV Charging Points can be found on the Warwick District Council website.
