An amber weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Kenilworth today as Storm Eunice hits the UK.
Forecasters had originally issued a yellow warning, but this has now been escalated with 70mph gusts expected in Warwickshire.
The warning is in place from 5am to 9pm today.
Forecasts have warned that:
- There is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life
- Damage to buildings and homes is likely, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down- Roads, bridges and railway lines are likely to close, with delays and cancellations to bus services
- There is a good chance that power cuts, possibly prolonged, could occur , perhaps affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage- It is likely there will be falling branches and some uprooted trees
Discussing Storm Eunice a spokesperson for the Met Office said: "The next low pressure system will track across central areas of the UK on Friday.
"Further impacts are expected from very strong winds with 60 – 70 mph gusts possible inland, perhaps even stronger in some places, though the strongest winds and worst-affected areas are uncertain at present.
"This system is also expected to bring some heavy rain and there is a potential for some significant snowfall over hills in the Midlands and further north."
West Midlands Railway is now advising customers not to travel today.
