A driver has been jailed after causing the death of a woman on the M40 in South Warwickshire last year.

Akashdeep Singh has been sent to prison for seven years and eight months after the crash on the M40 between junctions 11 (Banbury) and 12 (Gaydon) last September.

Having previously pleaded not guilty to death by dangerous driving, Singh changed his plea and was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Monday (March 31), the BBC reported.

He also pleaded guilty to causing death by driving whilst disqualified and serious injury by dangerous driving.

The collision between a Peugeot Boxer van and a Hyundai Tucson happened at around 7.15pm on Saturday 28 September and also involved four other cars.

The woman who was in her 50's was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Singh fled the scene on foot, with Warwickshire Police launching a man hunt to find him.

Warwickshire Police also launched an appeal for information and thanked locals for their help in the investigation.

Singh has also been disqualified from driving for seven years.
