Major extension for Kenilworth home looks set to get green light despite residents' objections

By James Smith 2nd Mar 2022

A major extension at a Kenilworth house looks set to be approved despite the objections of residents and the town council.

The application would see two-storey side and rear extensions, and a loft conversion with a dormer window built at a house on Littleton Close.

Kenilworth Town Council and 15 local residents have objected to the plans, which would also see the ridge of the house raised.

A previous application for the same building was objected to by Warwick District Council, but scaled down plans have now been recommended for approval.

The amended design, which is now the largest permissible size, was objected to by the town council which said it was too big and would cause parking problems.

Public responses also focused on the scale as well as parking issues, the interruption of access to numbers 23-29 and the impact on Kenilworth Common.

However, district planning officers said: "The proposed raising of the ridge is considered acceptable in this case, it will not result in a dwelling that is substantially or unacceptably larger than the other dwellings in the immediate streetscene.

"This dwelling is set at the bottom of the road and therefore the raising of the ridge will not result in a dwelling that appears significantly out of character when viewed from the street due to its position relative to the street."

Adding: "It is not considered that the proposals would result in an unacceptable level of overlooking which could warrant the refusal of a planning application."

Council officers also said that there would be no loss of parking spaces as a result of the extension.

WDC's planning committee will discuss the extension on Wednesday, March 2.
