Members of regional community choir Pop Voices, with a class based in Kenilworth and Balsall Common, are jetting off to New York with a little help from Pitch Perfect producer Deke Sharon.

Around 50 of the choir's 300 adult members will be making the trip to perform at an a cappella concert at the Carnegie Hall which will be conducted by the film maker who invited the choir to attend.

Anya Small, director of Pop Voices, said: "A cappella is challenging for a pop choir like us more used to belting out pop classics to music.

"We're used to mastering harmonies but singing a cappella our voices become the instruments – it's a challenge the choir have risen to wonderfully meeting in small groups for weeks practising hard.

"We're so excited about the trip, performing on one of the world's greatest stages, and being coached and conducted by Deke, the king of a cappella thanks to the Pitch Perfect movies."

Local choir members have already performed locally at Birmingham Town Hall and Resorts World and travelled further afield to the Tower of London and Abbey Road Studios.

Over 200 members performed at the prestigious opening ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Kenilworth Singers meet weekly on Wednesdays at Clinton School and are regular performers in the area, most recently at the Kenilworth Christmas markets.

Anya added: "I am very proud of them, just as I am of every single member of the Pop Voices family."

The New York concert, called Total Vocal, will be another highlight for the community choir who said they are proud to be representing the United Kingdom and their home towns.
