Kenilworth's MP 'cannot hide behind lame excuses any more' says local councillor
Kenilworth's MP "cannot hide behind lame excuses any more" according to town and district councillor Cllr Richard Dickson.
The local Liberal Democrat spokesperson has called on MP for Kenilworth and Southam Jeremy Wright to tell Boris Johnson to resign after the publication of Sue Gray's report yesterday.
Conservative MP Mr Wright has so far not committed either way regarding the Prime Minister's future as the 'partygate' saga continues.
Mr Wright said: "Among the understandably high emotions, I think my constituents are entitled to expect me to respond in a considered way," as he waited for more information to be published.
But with her finding "failures of leadership and judgment" in Downing Street, Cllr Dickson said it was time for Kenilworth's MP to act.
"The Conservative MP for our area cannot hide behind lame excuses any longer," he said.
"We all know, whilst people in Kenilworth and Southam made terrible sacrifices during lockdowns, Boris Johnson and his team were partying in Downing Street.
"We all have painful memories of that lockdown, from not being able to see dying relatives, to being separated for months on end from our friends and family. Last year I was unable to visit my father in hospital before he died.
"It is time for our MP to tell Boris Johnson it's time to go. No more ifs or buts."
In parliament yesterday Boris Johnson apologised to MPs after Ms Gray revealed she looked looked into 16 events in total - 12 of these are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.
"It is an insult to everyone in our area to see the local Conservative MP refusing to question the Prime Minister about this update," added Cllr Dickson.
"Our MP sat and listened to yesterday's House of Commons statement. But he said nothing. Silent. What more are we waiting for?
"If any of us his constituents had an update report like Sue Gray's written about us at work, we'd have been shown the door immediately. It's called common justice."
Nub News has approached Jeremy Wright for comment.
