Kenilworth residents are being asked to share their thoughts on how the town council should invest over £3 million in local projects.
The money has been raised through the 'Community Infrastructure Levy' (CIL) funding. From June 1 Kenilworth Town Council will be sending out a survey to ask residents how that money should be spent to help support the community.
CIL is a charge that local authorities place on new developments in the area to help provide the infrastructure needed. As a result of the 2018 Local Plan, Kenilworth Town Council is set to raise substantial funds through the scheme.
The money can be used to support a wide range of infrastructure projects, including: transport, flood defences, schools, hospitals, and other health and social care facilities. For example, the town council recently gave up to £100k to the Talisman Theatre to support its new developments.
Cllr James Kennedy said: "The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) represents an opportunity for Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) to invest in projects that will improve the lives of Kenilworth residents in the short and longer terms. £3-5 million will be available over the next 5-10 years."
He added: "Whilst of course there are guidelines that we must adhere to, this is a community-led initiative, which means projects are submitted by residents and organisations with a direct link to Kenilworth. Local ideas to benefit local people.
"We have a great record of local engagement in Kenilworth with residents' views driving a number of initiatives and we've all now earned the right to help drive specific investment in our town using the CIL funding."
Residents will receive flyers containing more information from the beginning of June and there is a dedicated web page to explain exactly what the CIL programme is about and how it works.
The survey is available online and paper copies can be collected from the Town Council Offices if people prefer, it must be completed by June 30.
