Pub giant Greene King has been given the green light for a series of cosmetic works at a Kenilworth town centre pub.

The Lion - which has received an internal makeover since new tenants took over earlier this year - has been given permission for new signs, lights and boards.

The Warwick Road inn had asked to have a modern-style illuminated projecting sign, but this was deemed to have been "excessive and would have a harmful impact" by council planners.

Greene King also agreed to reduce the size of the text to be painted on the front of the pub.

"The amenity board sign, hanging sign, painted text to the front elevation and replacement lighting are considered to have an acceptable impact in terms of visual amenity and public safety," a council report said.

"However, it is considered that the externally illuminated painted text and logo to the side elevation would be harmful in terms of visual amenity.

"The signage would appear incongruous and out of keeping within the established street scene."

Greene King has also been givern permission to remodel and renovate the Bear & Ragged Staff, further down Warwick Road.
