Traffic lights will be temporarily installed in Kenilworth to help reduce the disruption caused by the two weekend closures of the A46 in February.

The dual carriageway will be shut from 8pm on Friday 7 February to 6am on Monday 10 February, then again from 8pm on Friday 14 February until 6am on Monday 17 February from Coventry to Thickthorn on the edge of Kenilworth.

The closures will allow HS2 to prepare for its new bridge to be installed near the Stoneleigh Junction.

And while councillors have warned disruption will be "inevitable", they have also revealed traffic lights will be installed at St John's roundabout in Kenilworth to help control traffic in and out of town.

"St John's Gyratory will be signalised during the weekend closures in February as part of the congestion mitigation measures, which I think will help," Cllr Richard Dickson said at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting.

"What is not yet clear is whether there will be signals on the Thickthorn roundabout - the A46, A452 junction.

"That has still not been determined by National Highways or the county council.

"I very much hope it will be because I think again it will help with what is already a very busy junction."

Cllr Adrian Marsh also said National Highways was working on plans to divert HGV's away from the town during the closure. Google has also reportedly been contacted and asked to modify directions on its maps to send motorists away from Kenilworth.
