Kenilworth planning roundup: Talisman appeal, 'deficient' housing and industrial units
By James Smith 14th Dec 2024
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Talisman Appeal
Campaigners have lost their battle to stop a new block of flats and shops being built on the car park at Talisman Square.
Developer Cobalt Estates has won its planning appeal for the town centre development, after Warwick District Council (WDC) had refused to grant it planning permission last year.
The car park can now be turned into a block of 43 apartments built over two new shops.
'Deficient' Housing
The last chunk of a "deficient" housing plan in Kenilworth has been approved by councillors despite concerns over the impact on neighbours.
The third and final detailed plan for a housing scheme at Thickthorn, Kenilworth, brings forward 267 homes and the linking of a spine road over the three parcels of land – the other two already have full planning permission with 509 homes set to be delivered across all three.
The entire plot had outline permission for some time but a series of objections to part three came forward from residents in the surrounding homes and local councillors.
Industrial Units
Town councillors have objected to plans to build six new industrial buildings in Kenilworth.
After a lengthy discussion last week, Kenilworth Town Council has objected to Barwood Development Securities Ltd's planning application for the land at Thickthorn.
Councillors said the scheme - which is on land already approved for employment use - does not follow the Land East of Kenilworth Development Brief or the Kenilworth Neighbourhood Plan, both of which were designed to control how the town is developed.
The application submitted to WDC would see six 'employment units' totalling an area of 22,000 square metres built on site.
