Kenilworth planning roundup: Pub's battle, more houses and 'dreadful eyesore'

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Developer's Tactics?
"Classic developer's tactics" was how one town councillor described plans to increase the number of homes on a new housing estate.
Persimmon has applied for permission to increase the number of houses in the second phase of its Kenilworth Gate development - although the planning application to Warwick District Council referenced both five and six additional plots.
While Kenilworth Town Council did not formally object to the application at its planning meeting last week, Cllr Peter Jones was unimpressed with the submission.
Planning Battle Continues
The battle to repurpose a village hall described as a "dreadful eyesore" is set to rumble on as an appeal has been submitted following a council decision last year.
In 2024 Warwick District Council (WDC) refused to acknowledge the Meadows Hut in Stoneleigh is no longer designated for community use - the latest in a decade-long saga around the building.
JBC Property Developments said the building has been vacant since 2013, and claimed the past three owners have all tried to find a new use for it, as the timber structure is no longer suitable for public use.
Pub's Planning Saga
Town councillors have doubled down in their objections to a Kenilworth pub's latest bid to keep an outdoor barbecue pit.
The Royal Oak has already been refused retrospective planning permission for the facility in its beer garden, with an appeal for the shed also refused last year.
Kenilworth Town Council objected to the previous application and has once again written in opposition to a fresh proposal for the same development, saying little has changed.
