Kenilworth planning roundup: New science park, padel and Wantage works

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

New Science Park

The University of Warwick's plans for its science and engineering site were approved this week (on July 9).

New buildings up to 35 metres high have got the go-ahead, while other blocks – some dating back to the 1960s – will be knocked down.

More green space is planned for the precinct, which will also have "excess" car parking removed, plans say.

New Padel Courts

District planners have signed off on an application for two new padel courts at Kenilworth Tennis, Squash & Croquet Club.

Having had great success since installing two padel courts last year, the Crackley Lane club now wants to double the amount of space for the sport.

The approved application says the new courts will come at the expense of an existing tennis court, but will be covered meaning they can be used regardless of the weather.

Wantage Works

Repair works to the Wantage in Kenilworth have been blocked by council planners who criticised a lack of details in the plans.

Warwick District Council also questioned whether works on the grade II Castle Hill building had already started, despite it refusing to grant Turlington International Ltd a lawful development certificate for the project.

An application submitted to the local authority included a variety of work on the historic building, including replacing broken tiles, repairing brickwork and chimney stacks, reseating chimney pots and rebuilding the gables to stop water leaking into the building.
