Kenilworth planning roundup: Holiday cabin, village school replaced, eco park and football stadium
Village school to houses
Plans to build two houses on the site of a former village school in Baginton look set to go ahead despite objections from local residents.
Baginton Parish Council has supported the plans but seven residents have raised objections - Warwick District Council will discuss the application next Tuesday.
K2L a long way away
A start date for the Kenilworth to Leamington Cycleway is still yet to be confirmed - more than two years after funding was first agreed.
Warwickshire County Council said it was unable to say how long the project would take at the same meeting as two Kenilworth teenagers submitted a petition calling for better cycling provision for the new school.
Work was supposed to begin this spring.
Ecopark and football stadium
The University of Warwick has prevented the public from attending a meeting about its plan to build an eco park and Coventry City Football Club's new stadium on campus.
Kenilworth Town Council had requested a public meeting to keep residents informed, but the university wanted to keep it behind closed doors.
A spokesperson said the university was committed to keeping the local community involved.
Start for new swimming pool months away
Abbey Fields Leisure Centre will not be demolished for a number of months Warwick District Council has confirmed.
Planning permission for the new multi-million pound swimming pools was granted last September and the work was due to begin in January 2022.
However WDC is still to sign a contract for the works, and a firm start date is yet to be agreed.
Tennis courts to holiday cabin
An old tennis court in Burton Green could be converted into a three-bedroom holiday cabin.
The applicant, Napton Marina ltd, said now was the perfect time to be investing in the domestic holiday market.
However residents have objected to the scale of the application - which is in the Green Belt.
Early stages for new local plan
A Kenilworth councillor has warned that there is a long way to go before the new South Warwickshire Local Plan is finished.
As many as 13 housing sites have been suggested for the town, but Cllr John Cooke said there was a long way to go before any decisions were made.
"There is a long long way to go, and I think the timings are very very critical as we go forward. I think that there is going to be some rocky events on the way," he said.
Other applications:
- Roof cover for parking spaces on Bridge Street.
- Pollarding on Grove Farm Road.
