By James Smith 5th Jan 2022

Below are the key Kenilworth planning applications recently received or discussed by Warwick District Council.

Gigafactory looks set to go ahead

The proposed gigafactory at Coventry Airport looks set to get the go ahead after council officers recommended its approval.

Councillors will vote on the plans next week.

Developers say the battery factory will create over 6,000 new jobs and add a possible £434million in GVA to the local economy every year.

550 new homes given green light

After councillors approved the plans back in September, WDC has given final approval for 550 new homes and a primary school to be built in Kenilworth.

The application was delayed for three months whilst the applicant fulfilled a number of criteria for the council.

Chief amongst these was ensuring that the required 40 per cent quota of affordable housing was met across the site.

No reason to object to solar farm

Controversial plans to build a 113-hectare solar farm in Honiley were given the all clear by Kenilworth Town Council.

At their meeting on December 17 councillors saw no reason to object to the plans, stating: "Whilst having no reason to object, members commented that this is a large size development which will be visible from Kenilworth Castle."

A residents group has already been started to oppose the plans.
