Kenilworth parking charge hikes introduced for 2022

By James Smith 6th Jan 2022

New, increased parking charges have started at Kenilworth car parks today (January 3).

Higher fees have been introduced at all three of the town's car parks managed by Warwick District Council - Abbey Fields, Abbey End, and Square West.

Changes, which were agreed by WDC in November, will also see a flat rate introduced seven days a week, scrapping the lower Sunday prices.

But parking in Abbey Fields will remain free for the first two hours.

Cabinet approved the increased charges for all its car parks at the beginning of November, before the full council gave the plans the green light on November 17.

WDC also increased parking charges last January.

Increased fees come as residents continue to complain about the cashless machines in WDC car parks.

At a full WDC meeting in October Cllr Alan Rhead said: "It is difficult to ascertain whether machine issues have impacted income to date."

However, he identified five issues - including increased transaction times - as a source of customer frustration and said WDC was working hard to improve the situation.
