Crackley Wood has received yet another Green Flag Award for its management

Green spaces in Kenilworth and across the district have once again been recognised in this year's coveted Green Flag Awards.

Awarded by Keep Britain Tidy, a record-breaking 2,208 parks across the UK have received the accolade this year in recognition of the high levels of management that go into maintaining them.

In Kenilworth Crackly Wood has been awarded yet another Green Flag Award.

Crackley Wood is maintained by Warwick District Council's green spaces team in partnership with the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and Friends of Oakley Wood and Crackley Wood.

Elsewhere in the district the Royal Pump Room Gardens and Jephson Gardens have been given Green Flag Awards in the 26th year of the accolades.

While Myton Pool has received its 13th consecutive Community Green Flag Award - making it one of ten Community Green Flag sites across the whole of the West Midlands.

To win an award a site must first apply and then and then show an in person inspector around the green space.

The Royal Pump Room Gardens is also one of 133 parks to have received a a Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the management of historic features, supported in England by Historic England.

Commenting on the announcement of this year's winners, Keep Britain Tidy's chief executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: "Parks are an essential part of our green infrastructure, playing a key role in our environmental sustainability.

"They are often the beating heart of a community, providing countless benefits to people and wildlife.

"Importantly, they provide a green haven for everybody to enjoy, regardless of their age, social status or ability to pay for access. It's clear from our research that for quality green spaces to meaningfully contribute to our health and wellbeing, they must be universally accessible and fit for purpose.

"The Green Flag Award is a vital component in ensuring the continuing quality of our parks and green spaces, making sure they are managed to the highest standards and are safe and accessible.

"The news that a record number have achieved the Green Flag Award standard is testament to the hard work of staff and volunteers who look after these national assets."

The winners will be celebrated this week at three awards ceremonies at the National Memorial Arboretum, Doncaster and Lambeth.
