Kenilworth Green Party litter picking helping to 'improve our shared environment'

Members of Kenilworth Green Party have been doing their bit to keep the town tidy by running a number of litter picking sessions at the start of 2021.

Under normal circumstances the Green Party would organise a number of action days to monitor air quality, collect litter and observe traffic issues with a '20 is plenty survey'.

However, none of these group activities have been possible as a result of the third national lockdown, and as such party members have found a way of doing their bit for the town, safely.

During February volunteers have been using their daily allotted exercise to pick litter in spots across Kenilworth, including the Common, the Greenway, Parliament Piece, around the castle and in Abbey Fields. The grass verge along Coventry Road, the bridleway down Rocky Lane and even a spot in Hunningham have all received a litter picking session.

With over 18 sacks of litter collected, it is sadly very clear how important such work is.

Tracey Drew of Kenilworth Green Party said: "Unfortunately, there is a minority of people that drop litter deliberately or accidently but on the flip side, we also know that there are already some great residents that litter pick while enjoying our green spaces. Many Thanks to them.

"To keep Kenilworth litter free, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage all the walkers to consider doing a litter pick on their regular walk, say once a week. The immediate benefit for yourself and your neighbours is that your local walking route is litter free!

"Obviously, litter shouldn't be dropped in the first place and it is natural to focus on this negative aspect but, we believe, that by taking positive action together, we can improve our shared environment. One that we have all particularly cherished during lockdown."
