Kenilworth fire crews were called to deal with 'deliberate fires' started with hay bales on Newbold Comyn today.

The crews from Kenilworth joined Leamington firefighters in extinguishing four hay bales in two separate locations.

Crews were called out at 9.30am this morning.

Kenilworth firefighters have made it clear that such fires are not only dangerous, but also risk people's lives whilst crews are occupied dealing with them.

A statement from Kenilworth Fire Station said: "Whilst attending this deliberate fire it meant we were unable to attend any incidents where people's lives or properties were in danger. This left the Leamington area without fire cover, resulting in crews from other areas needing to be brought into Leamington to provide cover.

"Crews returned to station at around 11.45. We were then mobilised at 11:58 to fire alarms sounding at a sheltered accommodation scheme in Kenilworth. This was a false alarm."
