Kenilworth fire crews battle farm fire through the night

By James Smith 24th Sep 2021

Kenilworth fire crews worked throughout the night to tackle a large barn fire at a farm on Lewis Road in Radford Semele.

Crews from Kenilworth were called at 10.18pm last night to the fire which was spreading.

Sheep trapped inside the barn were freed unharmed before and the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby buildings.

The 50 x 50m barn was filled with baled hay and farm equipment, and required six crews and the Coleshill station's water carrier to tackle the fire.

Kenilworth crews left the site at 2am, before the Kenilworth water carrier was sent at 3pm to relieve the Coleshill team. The carrier didn't return to Kenilworth until 9am.

Residents were advised to close their windows due to smoke coming from the blaze.

A Kenilworth Fire Station spokesperson said: "Two fire engines from Leamington were in attendance and requested the assistance of four more crews.

"Crews from Southam, Fenny Compton and Wellesbourne were also proceeding.

"Crews will be in attendance throughout today and most likely for the next few days monitoring the fire and allowing the hay to burn off in a controlled manner."
