A Kenilworth Day Centre, which has been shut since January, 'can't wait' to reopen next week following the announcement that the UK Government's roadmap will continue as planned.

Waverley Day Centre, alongside community centres across the country will be allowed to reopen from Monday (April 12) as the UK reaches phase two of the roadmap out of lockdown.

Waverley will actually be reopening its doors for the first time in 2021 on April 14, to allow elderly residents in the CV8 area to once again come together safely.

Manager of Waverley Day Centre Anne Cross said: "we look forward to welcoming back lots of our existing clients plus we are happy to talk to prospective clients, their families and carers.

"We have received lots of support and guidance from the county council who will check our Covid security, including safe maximum number which is 15.

"I'm sure everyone will be pleased to be together again and get to enjoy our cook's taste homemade lunch. I for one can't wait!"

Waverley will continue to offer a pickup service for guests using its own minibus, however this will be operating at reduced capacity for safety reasons.

Guests are able to visit the centre for the whole day, and enjoy activities and a cooked lunch, but there is also an option for a lunch club for those who just wish to come for food.

"Above all," says Anne, "we want people to know that we are a safe space, we are Covid-compliant, and here ready to welcome new and returning customers.

"We are working hard to liaise with other groups and get the right support in place for our Kenilworth people."

Whilst the centre, which is managed by charitable organisation Kenilworth Community Care, has been closed for the past few months, it has benefited from the support of the community.

The centre was one of three local causes championed by gastropub the Almanack last month, more details of which can be found here.
