The manager of a Kenilworth day centre is 'very excited' to be returning to full opening hours once again to help tackle social isolation for local elderly people.

Waverley Day Centre, on Waverely Road, is now open once again from Tuesday through to Friday as it returns to normal service.

The centre has played a key part in helping elderly people regain their confidence and return safely to social events once again after the various lockdowns.

Centre manager Anne Cross said: "We are very excited and relieved to be back working our four full days and feel we are getting back in the swing of things once again. So pleased most of the members have returned to Waverley, they have missed the club so much.

"At last we feel as if we are back in some kind of routine which can only be good for those that attend. Loneliness and lack of a social outlet is such a problem for all ages but especially the elderly."

The centre, which is still encouraging social distancing and other Covid-19 precautions, has also enjoyed welcoming new members in 2021.

"We are also pleased to be welcoming new members over the last couple of months as people feel more confident about coming out and about," Anne added.

Waverley offers home cooked food and friendship four days a week, with two main services on offer.

Lunch club is held from 11.30am until 1.30pm at a cost of £6.50.

The full day on offer is 10am until 3pm (this gives respite time to carers and families), and a minibus, operated by the Waverley team of volunteer drivers, can pick up and return home members who live within the CV8 postcode.

Cost for the day is £35.

Booking is essential for all Waverley services. Whilst Waverley does have customers with memory problems, it is not a dementia specialist service.

Anne was also keen to thank the various organisations and individuals within the town that have supported the centre during the pandemic.

She said: "So many organisations have helped us get back to where we are now including the town and county councils, the service clubs, especially Kenilworth Lions and the local churches, as well as private individuals.

"Not to mention our staff, volunteers and board of trustees who have worked so hard through this strange time to ensure we could reopen when it was safe to do so."
